Latest Watercolor - Work In Progress

Here is a painting of a glass doorknob on a red door.  I have made several paintings of glass doorknobs over the years.  They remind me of ice.  I am posting the latest progress at the top.  Scroll down to see older images.

I worked on something else for a day and then got back to this painting.  Mostly, I worked on the escutcheon in the following image.

For this session, I worked only on the glass knob.

I worked on every part of the painting except the background which I have not touched again since the first day.  Work continues on the red door, escutcheon, knob base, and glass knob.  The painting is nearly complete now.  So far, I think I will leave the background as it is.

On the next day, I warm up the red door and deepen the values.  I begin to deepen the values on the knob base and begin to work more on the escutcheon as well as the glass knob.

After layering in washes everywhere except where white will be exposed, the overall values are nearly established on the door and to some extent on the escutcheon.  I am saving the glass knob until last.  The background to the left of the door brings the subject closer to the viewer.  It took quite a few sessions to get the painting to this point.
